Sports rivalries are all fun and games until someone decides to "take this outside."A Yankees fan who found herself among throngs of Red Sox fans at a New Hampshire bar has been charged with the reckless second-degree murder of one of her hecklers. When an argument over whose team was the best made its way outside, Ivonne Hernandez got into her car, pointed it toward a crowd of Red Sox fans, and gunned it.
Matthew Beaudoin, 29, was struck by her vehicle and later died of massive head trauma.
It all started innocently enough, when Hernandez walked into enemy territory and announced her loyalties. Probably a bad idea, but if you've got the stomach for it, you could have a lot of fun with the bantering. But with alcohol also involved, the bantering eventually became heated.
What Ms. Hernandez did was wrong in every way, and she will deserve whatever sentence she receives. But each Red Sox fan that poked and prodded her along the way, and especially those that followed her outside, share in the blame for what happens. And cold as it may sound, that includes Mr. Beaudoin.

While I agree with most of what you say, you aren't being very even-handed.
When Boston won their first series in 86 years, the fans outside Fenway set fire to cars, overturned a vehicle and were on the verge of a riot. So much so, in fact, that a BPD officer shot and killed an innocent bystander (with a rubber bullet).
It really all boils down to this: These fans who take things to this extreme are not in their right minds. No one I know would scream in the face of someone in line at the bank. But, put some of these freaks in a ballpark, feed them too much alcohol, and some of these fans turn into lunatics.
It is way past time to institute a code of conduct for fans that has some teeth to it. -You don't get to act like a barbarian just because you're at a baseball game.
It's high time to hold these people accountable for their bullying, harassment, inciting violence, and for anything outside society's established lawful norms for public behavior.
How are Red Sox and Yankee fans like summer vacation? NO CLASS! As a Tampa Bay Rays fan I have had to endure the obnoxious taunts of New York/England carpet-baggers for years, and since the Rays have become a contender the jerks have decreased in number but increased idiocracy. This is an exciting game, but these fools think that they being fatter, uglier and forceful prove how great "their" team is. Yes, I get the urge to run them over in the parking lot, but then I remember that I live in a beautiful state with a beautiful wife and a wonderful life -- and vehicular manslaughter would totally cramp my style. So, to all you Red Yanks (for you are the same team after all), if you think you are so tough and want to prove what a fan you are, go to a futbol match and meet a REAL hooligan.
Oh you must be joking! You call that pantomime a rivalry that ruins the game... I have been to a yankees game and seen people being thrown out for getting loud and throwing peanuts... Are you kidding me? Try throwing excrement and destroying the stadium... Seriously, there is no real rivalry in US sports. Look at Man United and Liverpool FC... Liverpool fans even kill people sometimes over their rivalries!
