Bingo! It hit Piazza in the helmet.
I'm sure he didn't mean any harm by it, but that makes no difference to the Angels, who grounded Flores for three seasons. That's right, if Flores wants to cheer for his team, he'll have to drive up to Oakland or wait for an interleague matchup against the Dodgers.
Maybe it's just me, but that seems a little harsh. It's not like he threw a brick.
Chalk it up to "the world we live in," I guess.

Oh no, of course he didn't mean any harm. I'm sure he thought Piazza looked thirsty and was trying to help him out.
You're right. You can chalk it up to the "world we live in". A world where fans think that the cost of a ticket entitles them to do anything they want to up to and including throwing things at players. No it wasn't a brick but do you want to wait until it is? You want to wait until a player gets hurt because of some moron in the stands? He should be permanently banned from ALL parks. It's time to send a message that buying a ticket to a game does not entitle you to endanger the players.
The guys that should be permanently banned from all parks are the guys who ran onto the field in Chicago (once a few years ago, and once earlier this season). Now THAT is dangerous. The water bottle incident, though, sounds to me more like a stupid guy acting on a stupid dare. Should he have been escorted out of the game? Sure. But I just think to ban him for three years borders on the absurd.
Think you're wrong on this one, Kevin. I swung a half empty plastic bottle like a bat once and when it slipped out of my hand, it punched a hole in the wall. Any physical threat to the players or refs needs to be taken seriously. You mentioned the Chicago idiots--what is the difference, other than this guy commits his violence while keeping himself in relative safety?
Yeah, I agree with the other commenters. I have no real problem with him being suspended... no one should be allowed to throw anything on the field, and this sets a good precedent for fans who think about doing it in the future.
A strange way of showing one's emotions. Let's hope that the next time it won't happen so that some player will be injured...
