Okay, so there were about thirty other reporters at his post-workout press conference, and we didn't actually talk. But I was there.
You can check out my story for The Olympian here.
If you ask me, the Sonics are in great shape for Thursday's draft. The Portland Trailblazers, who own the #1 pick overall, will be terrified to repeat their Sam Bowie performance in the 1984 draft. They passed up a guy named Jordan that year; ever heard of him?
With that in mind, count on them to take the safe road by choosing Greg Oden. Sure, they might be intrigued by a guy like Durant, and who wouldn't be? But with great privilege comes great responsibility, and the Blazers know they could never live it down if they pass on Oden and Durant flops.
So that leaves the Sonics with the easiest decision in the world. Oden's gone, so... "Welcome to the franchise, Kevin Durant!"

Hi,
Well, you are doing pretty good for a perspiring sports writer. Like you said, with millions of blogs out there, it's survival for the fittest and you are not doing badly.

Hey Kevin, i think in the long haul Durant will end up being a better pro than Oden, but Oden will have a bigger impact on an NBA team if that makes sense. Durant will put up better numbers, but Oden will be the first to get a ring.
Ha, pretty cool that you got to be there... I'm really pumped for the draft.
Something in your Olympian article struck me as odd at first. You said that Durant 'is the more polished player of the two and is considered by many to have tremendous upside'.
Started thinking about that. Players are either polished or they are raw with upside--they are never both.
But Durant is different. He is polished--how can you argue with 25/11 in college, I don't care what year you are. And he does have tremendous upside--there's no telling what he can do.
If I was Portland, I'd take Oden, too, but Durant has got to be the best consolation prize in sports history.
Chris, first off, thanks for reading the article.
Yes, it is a bit of a paradox. Greg Oden is a bit rough around the edges at this point, but he has very little upside because he's expected to be a 20 and 10 man. Unless he become Bill Russell and wins 11 championships, how much upside can you get?
Kevin Durant, on the other hand, is more polished as a basketball player, but because players of his athleticism and skill set are so rare, no one knows exactly what he is capable of. He should be very good at a minimum, but true greatness is also a possibility.
okay, so this is so dumb.some of you think that cheerleading isnt a sport and well you are very wrong. cheerleading is a sport. we work hard every day, we dont get a break because its all year long. its not just looking pretty for the crowd. its making sure your jumps are perfect, memorizing some 200 cheers, if not more, having perfect motions, knowing motions, flexibility, tumbling, and stunting. we work hard on each of these things. and yes cheerleaders do compete. we are very athletic and flexible. so dont say its not a sport when you have no clue cause you have never tried it.
